JaxPHP

Ok - so I have RSVPed a yes to attend the local Jacksonville user group (JAXPHP) get together next week and I have to admit to being kinda nervous about it. I have never been to user group meeting and have no clue what to expect. Hopefully all will go well and I won’t get lost or show up late or make an idiot of myself.

Anyway - if anyone is in the area be sure to stop by, say Hi and hopefully save me from myself.

I remember attending my first PUG (Go http://www.phplondon.org!).

I went on my own, not knowing anyone else there. The only thing for it is throw away your inhibitions and start introducing yourself to people.

Perhaps try and meet an existing member that you know (on/offline) first and get them to introduce you around?

Also don’t forget the timeless PUG classic:-

A: “Hey, what do you do?”
    B: “I’m a PHP developer…”
A: “Woah, me too! What are the chances…”

    :D

Ok - went to the meeting and had a really good time. It seems we had more then normal since the Ruby Guys showed up to be part of the discussions. I was, of course, the only girl there but had fun listening to the discussions and adding a bit when feeling like it. Seems like a nice bunch of people that I plan to get to know better and hopefully see where the group goes. Had to leave pretty fast though afterwards since I didn’t expect it to last as long as it did. Next time I now know to leave more time open for it so I can socialize afterward as well.

I should probably also mention the I will be attending some of the Ruby meetings as well - never hurts to gain knowledge.

I am glad you enjoyed Lig. If you have any topic suggestions or would be willing give a presentation or lead a discussion you are more than welcome. We usually stir up the styles of meetings according to what is best for the topic or presenter.

    Welcome to the group!
