Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

Went and saw “Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith” last night and I have to say - “Holy Shit - That movie is waaaaaayyyy cool”. We got to the theatre at ~17:45 and bought a ticket for the first non-sold out show (19:00). We were really surprised that it was so close to the time we arrived (was expecting to possibly get into one of the later night show). Guess it was because they had 5 theatres showing it - basically a new show started every half hour.

Before the show even came on they had one of the ushers show up with a light saber (it was really cool - in the dark it lit up the same as in the movie) and give the speech reminding people about cell phones and pagers. That was good - since if anything like that went off while the show was on - people might have rioted. Hell - NO ONE even got up to use the rest room during the show.

I won’t tell you about the movie - but I will say that what the emperor tells Anikan at the end about Padme is just Fu@ked Up. Messing with his mind like that. I also found interesting the relationship of other people’s decisions and how they affected Anikan ultimately going over to the dark side (Note Windu’s decision about what to do about Palpatine). In the end I found Darth Vader a sympathetic character though Obi-Wan Kenobi stole the show. He is the one I ultimately connected to.

Friday the 13th

Curious trivia:
Why is friday the 13th considered bad luck? - because it was the day the Knights Templar Order was disbanded and it’s member arrested and tortured for heresy. Sorry but “Jason” had nothing to do with it.

I have always considered it my personal good luck day since elementary school. But then - I’m like that.

xhtml compliant

May 10th, 2005, 6:31 am by lig

Well I finally got my project site xhtml transitional compliant. Since I am adding another page to it - I have to alter the templates. Since I was doing that (and I would eventually have to make the site compliant) I figured I might as well get it over with. So the CSS went through a complete rewrite and the templates were altered to account for it. Note the ease of the change in presentation while not touching the logic. Pretty cool. Smarty just proved how good it is.

Learned alot about CSS - though not as much as I would have liked. Discussed with the guys (well faw actually) the merits of going tableless and following xhtml strict, but I really just don’t have the time to learn and code it. For now just being compliant is enough - after all as far as I know I am the only one on my team who is trying to be. Only have 2 test browsers (IE and Mozilla) so hoping the compliance will help with cross-browser compatability.

Found it interesting that it is normally a 3 person job to create a project like this. Another one of the guys on phpc noted that in his company they has three people doing what I am (the graphics artist, the designer, and the developer). Now granted I know I don’t do as good a job as those 3 would - but it was humorous that my company pays 1 to do the same thing.

kentucky derby

May 8th, 2005, 12:31 am by lig

My husband and I watch the Kentucky Derby every year (if we can only see one sporting event it would be a toss up between the Super Bowl and the Derby - with the Derby being the favorite) . When we lived in Italy we would wake up at 2AM to see it.

Anyway - we somehow missed it this year. It was supposed to be run at 5:30 PM EST so we did the conversions for time and locally it was supposed to start at 8:30 AM on ESPN2. We set the alarm so we don’t miss it - but somehow we did. Very irritating. And then to find out that the long shot won by a half a length! I have been scouring the web looking for the racecall to no avail. *sigh* Hopefully since the local TV runs a week behind we can see the race next weekend on a rebroadcast. It just isn’t the same though.

job interview

May 2nd, 2005, 6:21 am by lig

Had a job interview today at the local university. Thought it went pretty well - though I think I am the first person they interviewed. Would really like to have this job - not just for the money (though it will be a significant increase) but because - as much as I truly enjoy my current position - I am very limited in my growth. I have no other person in the office to bounce ideas off of, or check to see if I am doing something completely hare-brained, or ask if there is a better/ alternate method of doing something. Granted I have the guys at phpcommuninty to ask for help (and I have NEVER not gotten it) but having someone right there is something I am sorely lacking.

Now don’t get me wrong - I am very happy working independantly learning as I go - but I can’t help but feel as if I could be learning/doing more. Not knowing the right questions to ask can be frustrating. I guess I’m saying that I have outgrown my current job and am ready to expand myself. Now if only I have convinced the interviewers of that and get the job.

Wish me luck.
