Pope Has High Fever From Urinary Infection

I am catholic. Not a practicing catholic - actually a twice a year catholic (Christmas and Easter). And yet the thought of the pope passing on is highly disturbing to me.

Maybe it is because he is the only pope I can remember. maybe it is because when I think of him I still see the strong, tall man standing between Reagan and Gorbachov.

Odd isn’t it - how even to one who has admittedly strayed and is not yet willing to go back, the pope is still my spiritual leader. Still the focal point of my faith.

May the Lord bless him and keep him safe.

Life has been pretty good to me today. I have managed to get a couple of reports to work and lunatech sent me an invite to the Y! 360 network. Haven’t had much time to play with it but that is OK. There is always tomarrow. :)

While I can sypmothize with someone following their own conscience, I also feel that access to basic medical assistance is also required. So many layers of grey. I know which side I tend to lean toward. Do you?

Pictures… Finally

March 27th, 2005, 12:05 pm by lig

OK - I admit it. I’m a slug. It has taken me this long to finally get up the pictures from christmas and a few others from our trip back stateside in December (namely the pictures of Jason and Memere, driving across allegator alley and a few more of us just hanging out at Dad’s house.).

I’m still working on Nicole’s wedding and graduation pictures. Have finished touching up everyone else’s pictures - just have ours left to do. Then I will send those to her and she can decide what to do with them. Think I have done about 50 so far and have at least another 50 to go. Nic - you owe me for this :) .

Happy Easter

March 27th, 2005, 11:44 am by lig

Happy Easter everyone. Due to a long and complicated story (which I will save you from) we missed sunrise service. Kayla also didn’t want to go to the Easter egg hunt - says she is too old for things like that. So basically we stayed home and cleaned. Not what I would call a nice way to spend Easter, but it did need to be done.

Kayla didn’t receive an Easter basket this year - instead we got her an ipod shuffle. She is getting into the whole music thing. We told her that it is her Easter and birthday present so not to go looking at us in November :) .

All in all - it has been a quiet day. Kinda cool.

Hives

March 23rd, 2005, 11:20 pm by lig

Well yesterday was an interesting day. Kayla went to a birthday party at a hotel that had a water park in it - and according to her had a great time. I on the other hand - broke out with the hives (allergy) for a couple of hours. Wasn’t as bad as it has been in the past. I just looked like I had some kind of skin disease for a while. It was actually kind of funny since one of the people I work with has never seen it before and freaked out.

But I am better today (back at work) and Kayla is in school. Life continues on. :)

entering SQL into Access 2000

March 22nd, 2005, 12:58 am by lig

Finally remembered how to submit a SQL line to an Access database. I knew it was possible just couldn’t remember how to do it.

  1. In the Database window, click Queries under Objects, and then click New on the Database window toolbar.
  2. In the New Query dialog box, click Design View, and then click OK.
  3. Without adding tables or queries, click Close in the Show Table dialog box.
  4. In the View menu (at the top) click on SQL View.
  5. Type in (or copy and paste) your SQL.
  6. Click the red exclamation point or go to the Query menu and click Run.

Do that as many times as you need to and skip all the M$ stuff tha gets in the way.

The courts have already ruled ladies and gentlemen - the tube is to be removed. The doctors have spoken, the husband has asked because she asked, the courts have listened, sympathized and made their ruling. Why must you prolong this?

weekend

March 21st, 2005, 12:06 am by lig

Well it has been a pretty industrius weekend for us. Jason finished installing/fixing the gates for our new fence around the backyard while Kayla and I (and later Jason) did yard work (mowing, trimming, pruning, weedwacking, ect.). With a half to 3/4 acre lot it takes a while and we all work up a sweat. After that Jason and Kayla completed her science fair project (it dealt with electricity) with different results then everyone was expecting. Now Jason needs to take all the wires, batteries and stuff and put it onto a board for Kayla to bring in.

Sunday - we went to the kite festival. Kayla has been bugging us to go. And what happens on the day of it - she wants to stay home instead. Go figure. So Jason and I with the 2 dogs went and left Kayla home to do her own thing (she is getting to that age). We don’t normally let her stay home alone but the past 2 weekends we have. She absolutely did not want to go out with us when we played golf and for the kite festival. Guess it is time to start letting go.

Anyway - for the kite festival - we of course forgot the camera so there are no pictures. Next weekend is Easter (wonder if Kayla will stil want to do the easter egg hunt) and the weekend after is the dog show. Hopefully I will remember the camera so we can add a few pictures to the gallery.

Yahoo! News - Senate Approves Drilling in Alaska Refuge

I am sorry - but this is wrong. I understand that it will make us less dependant on foreign imports. So would a bill that forced the auto manufactures to produce more efficent vehicles. Oh - forgot for a second that the car makers are also BIG donaters. Hmmm - money from car makers vs. a few animals (who have no voting rights). It’s a no brainer which way they went.

up and running

March 17th, 2005, 3:27 am by lig

Well my class is up and running. Using a little bit of test data in the DB and a simple script - I got it working. So what happens…. I get an IM telling me that I am now to code the class in php4 - seems the hosting service for the dedicated server we are using - refuses to load php 5 on it (says it isn’t stable). What a load of crap! It’s my darn server - put on it what I tell you.

Anyway… had to convert it over to 4. Kinda sucked since I was using all of php5’s newest OO capabilites but it wasn’t hard. Retested and it works. Now I have to modify/add to my 6500 lines of code to work with it. Kinda looking forward to it.

Boss asked my what my current time table is for completion. Figure about 6 months. Was explaining that the reporting feature of the program is a program all by itself and will take awhile to do since most of it - I am learning about as I go. And heaven knows I know more about how internationalization and email works then I ever wanted to. Keep reminding myself that no knowledge is ever wasted.

Well time to get back and hack away.

draft 1 of the class

March 11th, 2005, 12:34 am by lig

well I did it. I made my first OOP class (with javadoc type comments and everything :) ). Took me a little to conceptualize it and figure out what methods I needed, but finally got it. Having a couple other programmers look it over to make sure there isn’t anything glaringly wrong.

Don’t know how to test it other then with a test script and test data.

Well - wish me luck everyone. I am making my first foray into OOP on my own. I will be writing my very first class for php. It will be in php5. Hopefully I won’t screw it up too much. Wish I had a professor standing next to me, but then I guess I wouldn’t learn as much.

Guam telephones

March 8th, 2005, 12:35 am by lig

Can you beleive my phone has been on the blink for over a month now. Tried to get it fixed 3 weeks ago - no luck - the phone company never came out (won’t mention that I had to take a day off of work to wait for them to show up). Tried again yesterday. They actually showed up this time - to tell me that they can’t fix it. They will continue working on it today (so they say). And yet I still have to pay them to keep my phone (or pay an addition $25 reconnect) though it doesn’t work. Go figure.
